Solar Thermal

Things to consider

  1. Do you need planning permission? Domestic solar thermal panels are classed as ‘permitted development’ subject to certain conditions being met. For example, panels can not be installed above the roof ridgeline and should project no more than 200mm from the roof or wall surface. If your home is a listed building, planning permission/listed building consent maybe needed.
  2. Ensure your house is well insulated and draught proof if solar thermal is going to work most effectively
  3. Do you have several square metres of partly south facing roof space in direct sunlight for most of the day?
